Arts : 60 Years On: The Legacy Of James Joyce

Arts Irish novelist and poet James Joyce died in 1941, but is still a revered figure in literacy as the annual Bloomsday celebrations prove.

On North Earl Street in Dublin stands a statue affectionately known as ‘the prick with the stick’. It is in fact a statue of arguably Dublin’s most famous writer, James Joyce. Along with the bust of Joyce in St Stephen’s Green in the city, and the fact that there is a street, as well as a library in the university college named after him, and a museum dedicated to his life and works, it soon becomes clear just how revered James Joyce is in Dublin.

As if all of that wasn’t enough, Joyce enthusiasts now also hold a celebration every year on June 16th known as Bloomsday, to commemorate the life of Joyce; and also to relive the events that take place in Joyce’s most famous work: the novel, Ulysses.

Arts : A World Stage: The history of the Royal Opera House

Arts The Royal Opera House is the third theatre on the Covent Garden site. In 1728 an actor/manager by the name of John Rich commissioned “The Beggars Opera” from John Gay, a poet and dramatist. The success of this production helped provide the capital for the first Theatre Royal to be built and on the 7th December 1732, it had its opening night.

The theatre was primarily a playhouse for the first hundred years or so, with King Charles II granting John Rich and the Theatre Royal in Covent Garden, as well as the Drury Lane theatre, almost exclusive rights to present drama in London. Rich also began developing pantomime as an art form which led to the tradition of pantomimes being performed every Christmas - a tradition that lasted until the 1930’s at Covent Garden and still continues today at theatres across the country.

Arts : Professional Screenplay Formatting Tips

Arts As the number of screenwriters increases around the world, literary agents, screenwriting contests and film and TV productions companies are bombarded with more and more material. To make matters worse, tens of thousands of new media graduates enter the fray every year. The sheer number of specs flying around the industry is simply overwhelming. The Writer’s Guild of America gets 50,000 new registrations a year alone!

Arts : The Basis Of Visual Arts

Arts Art has long been a source of peace and prosperity for many people in this world. Visual arts are a big draw for many as they create the aesthetic appeal to the nature of the artist that most find fascinating. Knowing the artist on a more personal level through their work is how many will associate a great artist from one who lacks confidence and talent.

The visual arts encompass things like sculpture, painting and so on. The basis of visual arts is that of productions meant to entertain through the eyes without use of song, speech or writing. The artist is trying to make a point by the concept he or she has put together without having to speak about the topic. So in truth the artist is telling a story by using the visual images and how they transform into words in our brain. The feelings aroused when a person sees a particular piece of art is the idea behind visual art.

Arts : Arts And Crafts Idea

Arts Crafters are able to come up with arts and crafts ideas from items that many people might consider junk! Arts and crafts ideas can be found in baby food jars, paper bags, shoe boxes, cds, and egg cartons among other items easily found around the home. When you come up with arts and crafts ideas from things you have in your home, you save money on having to purchase supplies from the craft store, and you are helping the environment by recycling.

Shoe boxes are the culprits of many arts and crafts ideas! You can create dioramas, doll houses, and box guitars. The arts and crafts ideas using shoe boxes are virtually endless- limited only by your imagination. You can also use shoe boxes for more traditional means, and create decorative storage boxes for your favorite things, momentos or other objects.

CD's are also great items to encourage arts and crafts ideas. They are perfectly round, and give off a wonderful shine when light hits them. The little hole in the center is perfect for stringing twine or chain through, in order to create hanging arts and crafts. Ideas include Christmas ornaments, candle holders, dreamcatchers, photo frames, clocks and magnets. Start with a CD you don't need (like the ones you get in the mail from advertisers, or a CD that has too many scratches to work properly) and see just how many arts and crafts ideas the little shiny circle can generate!

Arts : Classic Movies Vs. Digital Movies

Arts Old movies are a great alternative to today’s digitalized movies which are all alike. Old movies offer great acting performances, exciting and unexpected turn of events.

Modern movie viewers want to see rapid-fire action, a simple plot and a lot of special effects. In the last few years the most successful movies were the big budget movies, with a lot of explosions and beautiful actresses. Of course, we can’t criticize a person for what movies he or she likes and dislikes but the movies of real quality offer more than spectacular explosions and beautiful women.

For example, in the early days of the movie industry, there weren’t no special effects due to the fact that technology was just beginning to develop. Back in the old days, movies had a complex and intelligent plot; in those days you judged a movie by how well the actors performed, how good the plot was; nowadays, people judge movies by the quantity of TNT used, the computer generated special effects used, the number of girls that are in the movie and let’s not forget that a good movie must have a plot as simple as it can be. I’m not saying that all modern movies are bad, but let’s be frank, most of them have these ingredients, and you can’t blame the producers because if the audience wants to see one of the mentioned, you have to give them that so that they can make a pretty buck.

Arts : Cell Phone Fundraiser

Arts By Kimberly Reynolds

Putting together a cell phone fundraiser for your group is quick and easy. Here are some tips on how to start your program and most importantly, how to collect large amounts of cell phones.

Cell Phone Recycling First, when doing a phone fund raiser you need to know that some used cell phones are worth a lot more than others. Obviously, the newest models with all the bells and whistles are going to be worth the most.

Second, some older mobile phones have little value because they are obsolete, not in good condition, the batteries won't hold a charge, or won't turn on at all. So, an important point is that you need a company to work with that will at least pay something for every phone, not just the good ones.
